Salvador Dalí is best known for his unique Surrealistic vision of the world utilizing fantastic symbol to create magnificent artworks. The Catalan Master is also considered among the great graphic Master of this century.
In the series “Homage to Albrecht Dürer”, Dali pays tribute to the painter and printmaker generally regarded as the greatest German Renaissance artist. Famous for his graphic work, Dürer was mostly inspired by the Bible and mythological themes.
Salvador Dali's interest in mythology developed from his readings of Sigmund Freud, who turned to myths from the past to understand the fundamentals of the human psyche. After reading Freud, Dali wrote that he was "seized with the real flaw of self-interpretation, not only of my dreams but of everything that happened to me, however accidental it might seem at first glance." Seeing how Freud relied on his knowledge of classical mythology in his psychoanalytic theories, Dali built his own artistic identity by using his understanding of these myths and symbols in his art and writing.
