In 2025, Diederik Boyen continues the momentum he set in motion in 2024. He transforms — or recycles, if you prefer — old paintings into semi-abstract objects. The result is a series of canvases carrying the patina of a former life, newly painted with geometric and abstract forms. At times they become objects with an abstract surface; at others they shift into trompe-l’oeil.
Boyen plays with his gift for hyperrealistic painting and enjoys misleading his viewers. We seem to see subtle light falling on glazed tiles, or the reverse side of a canvas. Or do we?
