Suspended

The painting ‘Suspended’ that was transformed into a screenprint by Tuymans and master-printer Roger Vandaele dates back to 1989 and therefore can be considered an early work. The remarkably colourful display refers to a very realistic, but empty world. Tuymans furthermore evokes a painful silence in this work. The three figures next to the pool, at a safe distance from each other, hands deep in their pockets enter a strange dialogue. Clearly ‘something’ is going on. An ominous event is in the air, making the scene mysterious and intangible.
